 Pottery by Chizu Omori

Picture
I'm happy when my pottery is held, enjoyed, and used in every day life.
Born in Kagawa, Japan, I came to NYC to find myself and discovered my love of making pottery and art, which connected to my family tradition of making "Urushi" (Japanese lacquerware).

In 2003 I opened my first pottery studio in Brooklyn, NY, and began selling my work in Soho and Tribeca. My husband and I moved to Japan in 2004 and opened our studio there, participating in many solo and group shows. After 15 years of living in Japan, we came back to New York.

In 2019 I returned to making pottery in Chelsea NYC and opened my online shop.
Below is a Japanese TV news clip from 2011

Once the clay is partially dry, it"s time to trim the bottom and fine-tune the overall contour.

Drying

Allowing several days to a week (or longer) sitting in the sun to dry completely.

Bisque Firing

The "Bisque" firing takes around 3 days, and the pieces are then ready for glazing.
